Finding A Hispanic Scholarship
As you approach the end of your junior year in high school, you begin to make plans for you college education. You begin the fun part of deciding which school you would like to attend. Then comes the not so fun part, how are you going to pay for it?
College costs have exploded in the past few years, making it very difficult for the average family to afford the cost. There are lots of clubs and organizations that offer scholarships for a variety of reasons. Some are for grades; community service and if you are Hispanic, there are Hispanic scholarships available.
Many clubs, organizations, and businesses offer Hispanic scholarships. They do so to help the Hispanic community and to help give schools more diversity in their student bodies. Finding out where you can find these scholarships and if you qualify for them is relatively easy.
There are a lot of different types of scholarships available. Some are for students who will begin a specific four-year college as a freshman. There are also Hispanic scholarships that you can get after you have already begun college. They tend to offer scholarships for college sophomores. They do this to make sure that you have been able to successfully complete a year of college. Here are a few scholarships that are available for incoming freshman:
The Hispanic scholarship fund offers a scholarship from Camino al Exito Program. To qualify for the scholarship, you must be of Hispanic heritage. You must also be a citizen of the United States or have a permanent residence card or a passport that is stamped I-551 and does not expire. They offer help ranging from $2500 to $5000. You must be scheduled to graduate high school and have between a 3.0 and 4.0 verifiable grade point average, and you must apply for financial aid and have documentation to verify that application.
There is also an available Hispanic scholarship from General Motors. It requires that you will be pursuing a degree in business and/or engineering. They offer $2500. It requires that you are also of Hispanic heritage and the same residency requirements. You must have a 3.0 to a 4.0 grade point average. You need to have applied for financial aid. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will also need to fill out a GM online Assessment. They also offer summer internships for their scholarship recipients.
There are also many scholarships available from the Hispanic College Fund organization. For all their available scholarships, you must of Hispanic heritage, have a 3.0 to a 4.0 grade point average, be a permanent legal resident, and planning to register as a full time student. Through them, you can apply for their general scholarship fund, they have no major requirement; you must just demonstrate your financial need. They offer $500 to $5000 per scholarship.
Scholarships are very helpful for average families to be able to send their children to college. The Hispanic scholarships available will help with the cost. You will have to do some work to get them though. Almost all of them require you to first apply for financial aid. Make sure you carefully read all the directions and all the required deadlines. Once you get them, you must maintain the requirements to keep them.
